Adenoids? Who needs 'em?! Well, we all do, really. But in 24 hours, Noah's will be gone.
No, I'm not referring to the old video game.
I'm not talkin' 'bout what's making the MLB actually interesting lately.
I don't mean those little itchy bumps that always get you in the end.
What I'm trying to tell you is that Noah is going for surgery tomorrow morning to have her adenoids and tonsils removed (aka tonsillectomy and an adenoidectomy). And we'd love for you to join with us in prayer for her safe surgery and speedy recovery.
Many of you know that Noah was born with a runny nose which has not stopped running. An endless tap, if you will, of snotty goodness. Our monthly tissue (with lotion) budget is higher than Canada's defense budget, and while that might not sound like much.... it's actually quite ridiculously high - even with all sarcasm and kidding aside.
Since she was born Noah has had trouble breathing through her nose, she has snored, she has often been sick, and she had trouble with choking from age 1 to 2. I aaaaalways said that something needed to be done about it, and finally our doctor agreed.
She was seen by a specialist who looked up inside her nose and exclaimed (this is a paraphrase, mind you), "WOW! That's pretty darn bad." This ENT specialist informed us that Noah had a 90% blockage of her nasal airways due to enlarged adenoids. She said this was the cause of the choking, the snoring, the constant runny nose, and the illnesses that would seem to never go away. So, she was booked for surgery, and we found out late last week that tomorrow would be The Day. 10:30am to be exact.
They will be removing her adenoids and, because her tonsils are also humongous and cannot be worked around, they will be taking those out too. As you pray for us, please focus on surgery success, a speedy recovery, and parental wisdom.
Doc says only soft, cool food after surgery: Pudding, Jello, mac n cheese, and cold soup. So..... basically everything that Noah despises. Super! She will be getting LOTS of ice cream and freezies in front of a lot of TV the rest of the week.
Lastly, our biggest concern is this... They tell us her voice will change. And Rach and I both think that sucks. But... it's way better for Noah's health that we do this. At least, current medical science tells us that it is. I'm sure those adenoids and tonsils will be missed, but, then again, I guess being able to breathe is top priority.
Thanks for your prayers and support.
PS Rachel's Mom (Gramma) is coming out today to stay for the week to help with Ruben while we focus on Noah. Thanks, mom.
